It has been super humid here this past week, in the mid 90’s and my cooking has become non- existent with nothing but sweet corn, cold peas & couscous, salad, and beets filling in for so called supper. But today the humidity dropped and we feasted- which after a long hot week, was welcomed.
On the menu for this evening was:
- Grilled Bison Cheese Burgers with home-made buns. The bison was from J & L Bison- out of Willmar MN 45 miles, Organic Flour for buns from Dry Weather Creek Farm- Milan MN 40 miles, eggs from the chikkers, and the cheese from Bongard’s Creamery- Bongard MN 95 miles away.
- Sweet Corn- The Garden
- Beans (that I burnt the crap out of and were really good)! The Garden
Non local was oil, yeast, honey, rice milk, & salt for the buns. Salt & pepper, Ketchup, Brow Mustard on the burger. And EVOO & butter on beans & corn.
**I wasn’t too happy with the buns- maybe a bit too sweet (rice milk?) and a little too heavy but it was only my second try so all I can say is that I gave it a shot. Right?
Anyone have a good recipe to share?
I’m still working on hamburger buns, too–I’ve had two failures. The first were not even hamburger buns! more like unsweet cookies. The 2nd were too dense and kind of blah. So–still searching for a good recipe.
