Hopefully the next post will catch you up on what has been going on with farm life. When my ducks flew the coop and how my chickens are happy to be only chickens, how many tomatoes & peachesĀ I canned, beans dried, watermelon picked, corn, beans, and beets frozen along with everything else that has been keeping me away. For now I am kinda down and out so I will let Mary Oliver say what I am feeling.
Fall Song
Another year gone, leaving everywhere
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,
the uneaten fruits crumbling damply
in the shadows, unmattering back
from the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere
except underfoot, moldering
in that black subterranean castle
of unobservable mysteries - - -roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This
I try to remember when time’s measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn
flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay - - - how everything lives, shifting
from one bright vision to another, forever
in these momentary pastures.
A lovely poem! Says it all! You are a very busy lady! Makes me feel like a whimp!
Enjoy the rest of the fall! Happy canning!
I found your blog on something about Popcorn Sutton and when I saw the 12 happy chickens, had to see it.
I just recently moved to where I could have chickens and a garden, so this year will be great, I only have 7 chickens, but am so happy to have them, hopefully more in the spring. Love your recipes, and keep blogging, I am hooked on your site.
