Watermelon & Pumpkins
Nov 11th, 2007 by Manerva

Today we cleaned the barn of all pumpkins, squash, & watermelon we have been storing. We try to keep as much in the barn up until the deep freeze comes on full blast. It was hard to think about a deep freeze since it was 60 degrees out today.
I have froze about 15 quart bags of pumpkin and just can’t do anymore this year so the horses had a treat today along with the rest of us. We were able to sit in front of my shop and eat watermelon in the sunshine on November 11th. This is a record for us as we usually don’t get this lucky with watermelon harvest.

The above picture was taken September 19Th. We harvested 49 melons not counting what we ate in the garden before hand. The Moon & Stars variety was the hands down winner this year. Between the two of us, two dogs, one cat, and 15 chickens we ate two melons today and brought 6 more into the house for safe keeping.
